“Abstraction allows man to see with his mind what he cannot see physically with his eyes....Abstract art enables the artist to perceive beyond the tangible, to extract the infinite out of the finite. It is the emancipation of the mind. It is an exploration into unknown areas.”―Arshile Gorky
The first signs of abstract art was that abstraction could help realize the viewers that art could be non representative and different from the real world as it could be traced to Cubism, Post Impressionism & Impressionism.
The Modern Abstract art was formed in the early 20th Century. It is when Artist started creating their own imagination in a way which had not reference to the "real" world.
Currently the artists, concentrate on making art on different surfaces like canvas, paper, wall, doors, stones, etc. They have started using new techniques to create visual qualities like texture, color, scale, form.Today it could be in two/three dimensional, small or big, black and white or colorful.
